NGT permits AP to go ahead with work on Amaravati
    OUR BUREAU

    VIJAYAWADA, NOVEMBER 17:
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday passed an order permitting the Andhra Pradesh government to go ahead with the work on the new capital, Amaravati, while complying with the stipulations laid down by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.

Several persons had filed petitions in the NGT against the environmental clearance given to the new capital project on the grounds that it would cause damage to environment, especially Kondaveeti Vagu (a rivulet).

In response to the NGT order, Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana said here on Friday that the State government would abide by the terms and conditions laid down in the detailed project report (DPR) of the 217 sq km capital meticulously, as directed by the National Green Tribunal.

The Minister also told the media that the Tribunal had stipulated the constitution of two committees for monitoring the project.

Vijayawada: Work on the Iconic Bridge between Pavitra Sangamam and Amaravati Administration Area will start very soon. The Tender Notification has already been released. Rs 1,434 crores budget estimations have been given for this 3.2 km-long bridge. As December 18 is the last date for filing the tenders, the process may start in the last week of December and the designs will come within two months, i.e. in March, 2018. If everything goes smoothly, the construction may start in the month of April or May, 2018.

From Ferry to Nandigama, the Krishna river has divided the Krishna and Guntur districts. The people of the riverbank villages have been using boats to cross the river. To reach Amaravati by road, is a long distance. Once the bridge is completed, vehicles coming from Hyderabad can go to Amaravati directly.

The designs of this Iconic Bridge have been prepared by a few institutions and submitted to the Chief Minister through ADC (Amaravati Development Corporation). Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has picked out two designs and asked that they be improved upon. The new design was submitted in the month of July. Now the process starts, beginning with the tender notification.

As per the ADC Officials, the design will be submitted by the company which gets the construction tender. The chief engineer of ADC, Mr Moses Kumar, said, “The design will be prepared by the contract company which gets the tender in the EPP model. Previous designs were checked by the CM, who has ordered us to follow the EPP process”. The construction of the bridge will start after March, 2018 and it may take one or one-and-a-half year to complete. Which means, only the new government formed in 2019 will inaugurate the Iconic Bridge.

‘It will have nine pollution-free cities and 27 townships’
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said work had started to make Amaravati a world destination.

“Funds to the tune of nearly ₹30,000 crore are being spent on developmental projects, including trunk infrastructure. Amaravati will have nine pollution-free cities and 27 townships. Only electric vehicles will run here. For a zero-emission transport and to preserve greenery, it is imperative,” he said.

Mr. Naidu was addressing a meeting associated with the inauguration of the initial two blocks (academic and hostel) of the VIT at Inavolu near here.

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu for sanctioning five lakh houses for the urban poor when he was Union Minister. “The houses will be built by elections,” he promised.

    Priority areas

Informing that the education and health sectors were among the priority areas, he said about 14 medical colleges with attached hospitals would come up at Amaravati. “The best schools will be here in the next few years,” he said, urging students to make use of the opportunities.

“Student phase in the most important time of life as it is a mix of fun, enjoyment and career-building. I want parents to gift good education to their children instead of giving them property which they will anyway earn once they are well educated,” he said.

Mr. Naidu the models adopted by South Korea and Finland, the top rankers in the education system in the world, were worth emulating.

Describing the Singapore government’s partnership with Andhra Pradesh in the development of its capital city Amaravati as the second lifetime opportunity after transforming the Southeast Asian city-State into a global economic powerhouse from what was a fishing village, Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC, Singapore) Executive Director Khoo Teng Chye said he was proud to be associated with the prestigious project while being conscious of the challenge of implementing the master plan.

Addressing the inaugural session of the two-day Amaravati Deep Dive Workshop on the planning of Amaravati organised by the A.P.-Capital Region Development Authority here on Thursday, Mr. Chye said A.P. should put in place institutions, policies and processes that facilitate implementation of the master plan in the desired manner.

The government could learn from the way Singapore gave a lift to its downtown, which has an orderly pattern of buildings and the famous Marina Promenade, attracting tourists. In this context comes the integration of water bodies with the urban landscape. Being a Greenfield city, Amaravati offered the flexibility to make it a world-class blue-green city, he said.

Seismological station to come up in Amaravati

NGRI chief scientist Srinagesh addressing a meeting in Vijayawada on Monday.V. RAJU

To draw risk maps and draw up contingency plans,
National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) Chief Scientist D. Srinagesh on Monday said the NGRI was prepared to set up a seismological station in Amaravati, at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi if the government so desired, for a detailed analysis of the low-intensity quakes that take place in this region frequently.

Though quakes could not be predicted, a study of the quakes however weak they might be, was essential to draw risk maps to facilitate planning in constructing buildings and creating infrastructure, particularly in a city like Amaravati which is being built from scratch.

“Earthquakes with an intensity of just 5 on the Richter scale took place in Ongole and Bhadrachalam in the 1960s and there have since been no quakes of such magnitude but it should not be a cause for complacency,” he observed.

Addressing media persons along with Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Sciences (INCOIS) Data and Information Management Group Head E. Pattabhi Rama Rao after a meeting on Analysis and Evaluation of Earthquakes in Andhra Pradesh with officials of the A.P.-State Disaster Management Authority (AP-SDMA) in its premises here, Mr. Srinagesh said Andhra Pradesh had nine seismological stations, including at Polavaram and Mylavaram, which disseminate data real-time to the NGRI, which could come up with its findings within 15 minutes of a quake.

    ‘Govt should be prepared’

“Vijayawada has about 10 faults at distances of over 100 km and they might not become active every time a tectonic plate moves but the government should be prepared for any eventuality. This was concerning all areas vulnerable to quakes including Vijayawada city,” Mr. Srinagesh said, asserting that the idea behind all this was to sensitise the government and also the people who tend to get panicky whenever the earth trembles.

Drones to track housing, infra projects in Amaravati

    VIJAYAWADA, FEBRUARY 15, 2018 00:16 IST
    UPDATED: FEBRUARY 15, 2018 00:16 IST

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu instructed the officials of AP-Capital Region Development Corporation (AP-CRDA) and Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) to keep track of the progress of housing and various infrastructure projects in the capital region with the help of drones once in a fortnight and report the same to him.

With the help of data generated by the drones, necessary action to ensure timely completion of the projects would be taken, he said in a review meeting on the activities of the CRDA and ADC at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

He said drones were an efficient way to monitor the grounded projects.

    Drone Corporation

The government formed the Drone Corporation as a subsidiary of A.P. State FiberNet Limited (APSFL) on Monday vide G.O MS No. 2 issued by the Energy, Infrastructure and Investment Department.

Keeping in view the potential of drones, the State had decided to utilize drones in sectors such as police, mining, municipal administration and urban development, agriculture and allied sectors, for monitoring, capturing images and videos at high resolutions, generating 2D maps, 3D models and point cloud models.
