Giving an impetus to the construction of Amaravati as an iconic city, the A.P-Capital Region Development Authority (AP-CRDA) has prepared a blueprint for setting up planning Amaravati Planning and Design Research Institute (APDRI) which will help create an environment for citizens and start-ups to contribute to the city planning through open data systems.

It will have the backing of renowned planning institutes from around the world besides financial support from the World Bank. Significantly, the Centre for Livable Cities (CLC),

Singapore is extending technical expertise to the APDRI.

According to an official release, the guidelines for it have already been discussed recently by Principal Secretary (Energy, Infrastructure and Investment and CRDA) Ajay Jain, CRDA Commissioner Cherukuri Sreedhar and Additional Commissioner V. Rama Manohara Rao and CLC authorities.

The blueprint is going to be submitted to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu soon for fine-tuning it.

    Happiness index

The APDRI will strategise urban design guidelines to ensure safe movement of pedestrians, cyclists and the differently-abled and put a mechanism in place for monitoring the happiness index through socio-economic surveys and planning.

It will also prepare a plan for the adoption of electric vehicles and autonomous transportation systems.
