Exciting possibilities: An artist’s impression of bridges that will come up across the Krishna.

Double-decker model caught CM’s eye, sources say
The L&T Constructions presented concepts for the construction of a bridge across the Krishna river connecting Mulapadu and Amaravati here on Wednesday.

The company representatives presented to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu six concepts for a bridge of a length of 3.8 km which includes a 1.2-km stretch suspension bridge. The first is the Namaste concept in which the suspension towers would be in the shape of the two palms joining in namaste.

The second is the Kuchipudi Concept in which the suspension arches would be similar to the contours of a Kuchipudi dancer striking a pose. In the third concept, the suspension pylons would be like the hand of dancer displaying the ‘Arala Mudra’ and in the fourth, the pylons would be in the shape of hands in the Buddhist Vitarka Mudra.

The fourth concept is a double-decker bridge with separate decks for vehicles and pedestrians.

Space has been shown on this bridge for events, cycling and eateries. In the fifth concept, the suspension towers are like the toranas, entrances to the stupa. There will be 13 towers representing all the 13 districts of the State.

In the last concept, the designs of Kondapalli Toys have been used for the pylons and towers of the bridge. The Chief Minister showed more interest in the double-decker concept, sources said.

Proposed bridge designs across Krishna river submitted by Larsen & Toubro Limited to the Andhra Pradesh government

VIJAYAWADA: Six concept designs of the iconic bridge proposed across Krishna river connecting the new capital city Amaravati with National Highway 65 between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, were submitted to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Wednesday.
Infrastructure major L&T had come up with the six designs and two of them are based on Kuchipudi, a classical dance form of Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Minister said he wanted the bridge to be an iconic and inspirational one that truly reflects the culture of Telugu people.

[IMG]The first model of the bridge is designed in the form of ‘Namaskara Mudra’ (the traditional greeting with folded hands). The second and the third designs are based on
Kuchipudi dance. One of the designs is Arala Mudra. The fourth design is based on a flower. The fifth one has adopted Amaravati Stupa concept. Kondapalli toys form the theme of the sixth design.
    Second design impresses CM
Though the Chief Minister was impressed with the second design, he wanted it to have the double decker design, which is part of the fourth one. L&T was asked to modify the second design by incorporating double decker road and submit it to the Chief Minister.

Naidu wanted the iconic bridge to have two tiers. The upper one is used for public recreation and the lower one for vehicular movement. Stating that the river will be dredged shortly for water transportation, he wanted to have subways from the bridge directly to the river, so that people wishing to enjoy water sports, can have direct access.
Naidu wanted the bridge to become another sunrise viewing spot like in Kanyakumari and a major tourist attraction. “The upper tier of the bridge will also have food courts and shopping centres,” he said.
Further, the Chief Minister directed the officials concerned to put the designs on public domains for eliciting views from different sections of people. He is particular about the inputs from architecture and design students.

    No compromise on quality
Taking stock of road infrastructure in the capital city, the CM made it clear that there would be no compromise on quality of the development works.
Taking exception to the stand of those who refused to give their lands for capital city under the Land Pooling Scheme, the Chief Minister wanted those lands to be declared part of the green belt.
